French Consulate Period Pair of giltwood and Portor marble consoles

A rare pair of large and impressive artistic consoles in carved wood and gilded with gold leaf. They are decorated with palmettes and rosettes, and rest on large columnar front legs and flat uprights for the back ones, joined by a plinth. The upper-top in Portor marble. Gorgeous French work of the Consulate period circa 1799-1804.

Our consoles had been lacquered in green and gold most certainly late 19th century. We undertook to clean the lacquer and found underneath a large part of the period gilding. We then entrusted our restorer with the mission of removing the paint, preserving the existing gilding and restoring these magnificent consoles to their original condition. Splendid result. Very nice restoration of the Portor marble tops.
